National Crossword Puzzle Day!
December 21st commemorates the birth of a challenging word game enjoyed by millions worldwide.
Printers published the first crossword puzzles in England in children’s books and other publications. They were simple word games derived from the word squares where letters were arranged in a square so that the words read the same across and down.
The object of a crossword puzzle is to fill in the white spaces of a grid with the correct words using the clues provided. Black spaces separate individual words. The clues to more challenging puzzles read like riddles, making the game more complex.

Guide to Changing BMW Wiper Blades

When Should Your BMW Wiper Blades Be Replaced?
Wiper blades, despite being affordable and simple to change, are sometimes disregarded when it comes to routine car maintenance. Wiper blades that are worn out can have a detrimental impact on your driving skills and general safety in bad weather. You may not know how worn your wiper blades have become as they fade over time. With that in mind, how can you know when your wiper blades need to be replaced?
Wiper blades should be replaced every 6 months as a general rule, especially in damp climates. Your wiper blades are not performing as effectively as they should if they leave any water, debris, or residue on the windshield as they swipe. It’s also time for a new pair if they’re wobbling or producing a screaming noise instead of quietly gliding across your windshield.
How to Change the Wiper Blades on a BMW
- Wiper blade replacement on your BMW is a simple procedure that can be done anywhere. Most of the time, the wiper arm base is tucked under the edge of the hood, making it difficult to raise it up and away from your car and change the blade. We recommend turning on your vehicle’s ignition and temporarily running your wipers to make the wiper blade replacement operation go more smoothly. Turn off your ignition as the blades sweep across your windshield, stopping them in mid-swipe. You should now be able to easily reach the wiper blades by pulling the wiper arms vertically away from your windshield.
- Locate and press or release a release tab or button where the arm meets the blade. You should now be able to remove the wiper blade away from the arm with a gentle pull. To keep the wiper blades attached, most wiper arms use a hook-shaped mechanism, but many contemporary vehicles use a simple adapter system.
- After removing the old wiper blade from the arm, just slide the new one on and listen for an audible click, or close the supplied release tab if necessary. You can now reinstall the wiper blade on the windshield and restart your engine, causing the wiper blade to return to its off position.
Grand Blanc BMW Wiper Blades for Sale
When it comes to replacing your BMW wiper blades, the most important thing to remember is to get the right size. This is why BMW of Grand Blanc has a large assortment of wiper blades in store and ready to install for every BMW model. We carry a comprehensive selection of new wiper blades, batteries, and other items for your vehicle. Check out our BMW parts specials on a regular basis to see if there are any special offers on wiper blades or other services.
Our service and parts teams are pleased to help you replace your wiper blades if you need it. If it’s time for new wiper blades, it’s probably time for an oil change and general check-up by our BMW-approved service center. Schedule a service appointment today! MAINTAINING THE SUNROOF ON YOUR CAR

Oil should be changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles by responsible car owners. They rotate the tires on a regular basis and replace the cabin filter on occasion. They do this because they recognize that regular maintenance will extend the life of the vehicle.
Why should your sunroof be treated any differently?
Sunroofs may appear to be nothing more than another window, but they are actually quite complicated processes. There’s always the possibility of anything going wrong when you have moving parts like motors and gears. When it comes to automobile maintenance, sunroof maintenance isn’t necessarily at the top of everyone’s mind, but if you have one, you’d be wise to keep it in good shape.
Make sure you don’t blow a gasket.
Rubber gaskets run around the perimeter of most sunroofs to keep them sealed tight. The sun and the environment can cause the gaskets to crack or break over time, which could be the source of your leak. Fortunately, the majority of gaskets are affordable and simple to replace.
A bad alignment is another reason your sunroof may have sprung a leak. Water can readily get through the seams if the panel isn’t level with the car’s roof. Because not every make and model is the same, this can be a little more difficult, but if your alignment is off, you may need to loosen the panel and reposition it.
Sunroof drains must be cleared.
The wonderful people who developed your car undoubtedly did their best to ensure that no moisture made its way inside. That’s why all sunroofs have roof drains built in to ensure that any rainwater goes out properly.
The only issue is that those drains are prone to clogging. Leaves, pine needles, and other debris can easily clog the drains, but they’re quite simple to clear. You can even clear them out with a wire or, better yet, a can of compressed air to eliminate any excess gunk that has accumulated over time.
Grease all moving parts.
Have you ever heard the phrase “functions like a well-oiled machine”? So, what’s this? That’s because well-oiled machinery perform better than those that aren’t. It’s not a difficult task.
Rails, gears, motors, and other moving parts in your sunroof can dry out in the sun, putting additional strain on the systems that keep them running. They’re easy to clean with a soft cloth and re-lubricate with lithium grease spray in most circumstances. It won’t take long, and it won’t break the wallet, but lubricating your sunroof on a regular basis could significantly improve its long-term health.
To be honest, once a year routine maintenance of your sunroof may be sufficient to keep it in good working order. Because if you don’t take the time to give it some TLC now and then, you might come to regret it later.
A GUIDE TO BMW HEADLIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS

Headlights from a BMW? In 1879, we invented the first light bulb, and in the 1880s, we invented headlights. We had headlights back when autos weren’t even a thing and night vision wasn’t even a thing.
They weren’t quite headlights; they were acetylene lamps, to be precise. After 1898, electric headlights became available. Cadillac was the first company to produce cars with contemporary electric lighting in 1912. Headlights became a need as automobiles got more widespread.
Today, headlights and taillights are not only fundamental requirements, but also the reason a vehicle is allowed on the road. Even if that were removed, there would still be hundreds of reasons why we require headlights and taillights.
This is why companies like BMW invest millions of dollars in the research and development of the most advanced lighting solutions. In this article, I’ll walk you through all of the BMW headlight/taillight options so you can pick the best one for your vehicle.
TECHNOLOGY AND TYPES OF BMW HEADLIGHTS/TAILLIGHTS
For years, BMW has been working on its light technology. Their main goal is to accomplish not only an advanced degree of aesthetically pleasing system, but also to make it efficient, useful, and unique at the same time.
BMW currently offers four different types of headlights, each with a different lighting technology, the most recent of which is the Laser Light technology.
So, let’s begin with the most basic version.
HEADLIGHTS BMW HALOGEN
Halogen lights are one of the most prevalent and well-known choices for all types of manufacturers, especially in the budget segment. However, seeing that in a BMW is a letdown.
Apart from personal preferences, the BMW Halogen headlights are standard on the BMW 3-series, which is the company’s entry-level model. The presence of Halogen gas in the bulb gives it the name Halogen light.
There isn’t much to talk about in terms of technology. Halogen lights, in particular, are inefficient and inconvenient compared to BMW LED lights. They also expressed concern about not being safe, yet most cars still have Halogen-based headlights and taillights today.
If you don’t like halogen lights, you can always go for the BMW light pack, which includes a full set of LED headlights and taillights. Yes, you receive your LED Drls, which are becoming a standard in the industry.
BMW HID
HID stands for High-Intensity Discharge and refers to the Xenon lights used by BMW. They create light by forming an electric arc between two electrodes in a xenon-filled glass. This produces a lot brighter light than Halogens while also being incredibly efficient and long-lasting.
HID is often available as trim or as an aftermarket HID kit. They are commonly thought to be unlawful, however as long as they comply with FMVSS regulations, they are completely legal. You may check a few things to see if your BMW has HID lights or not.
Xenon lights are white (blue) in color and far brighter than halogen lights. Simply park your automobile against a wall and examine the color of your headlights. HID headlights are normally projector headlights, which means you won’t be able to see your bulb. Finally, if your BMW has factory headlights, see your owner’s manual.
If you want to get a HID kit, it’s best to contact BMW of Grand Blanc Service Center for more information so you don’t make your car unlawful by accident.
BMW LED
Light-emitting diodes, or LEDs, are one of the most energy-efficient lighting technologies available today. They are not only more energy efficient, but they are also more durable and may be constructed in a variety of ways to be both aesthetically beautiful and functional. Manufacturers employ LEDs as DRLs for this reason.
Most BMW vehicles now include LED headlights and taillights as standard equipment. But that’s only true for the base trims; for a few additional dollars, you can upgrade to adaptive LED headlights.
The most up-to-date technology BMW’s Adaptive LED Headlights are the company’s pride and joy. They’re so good that the Laser Light technology is available as an option in the more opulent 7 and 8 series.
When it comes to functionality, only real life can demonstrate it. To put things in perspective, imagine you’re at a corner and a car approaches from the opposite direction. To avoid your lights reflecting on the windscreens of other cars, your automobile will purposely create a blind area, and at the same time, most of the lights will converge in the direction of a corner, allowing you to see well.
That is only one of the numerous functions of BMW adaptable headlights. They are, however, not inexpensive.
LASER LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY BY BMW
The BMW Laser headlights are the company’s greatest and most modern headlamp technology. In Europe, they were initially debuted in 2014 with the BMW i8. They are still so new six years later that they are only available as an option on the 5 and 6 series and are standard on the top trims of the 7 and 8 series.
Actually, there is a reason for their rarity.
BMW’s laser headlights are similar to the Ultra-instinct of Adaptive LED headlight technology. These lights not only integrate Adaptive LED technology, but they also improve it by a factor of ten. These lights are so bright that they can cast light for up to half a kilometer while still having all of the adaptive LED capabilities, such as BMW selective bead automated fade in/out.
The way they work is as follows.
First, lasers fire light through a series of mirrors, focusing it into a lens. This lens is made entirely of phosphorous, which amplifies the light and makes it 10 times brighter than an LED. All of this takes place in a headlamp assembly that is 30 percent more efficient than LEDs and is 30% smaller. When you combine this with their adaptive technology, you get a smart, precise, adaptable, efficient, powerful, and bright system.
Let’s speak about how to replace BMW headlights and taillights now that we’ve learned everything there is to know about BMW headlights and taillights.
COST OF REPLACING A BMW HEADLIGHT/TAILLIGHT
We wish to replace our headlights for a variety of reasons. However, it still boils down to two factors: what you require and how much it will cost. Simply said, whether you want to replace your entire headlamp assembly or just a single bulb determines the cost of repair.
A BMW headlight kit without a bulb will typically cost around $1000. If you want to go with LEDs, you’ll have to pay an extra $200. When you factor in the labor expense, you’re looking at a budget of $1300-$1400. That is for a single headlight on one side of an automobile in general. The taillights are likely to be the same.
Your BMW headlight replacement cost might easily run from $1000- $2000 depending on the model of your car, the type of kit, and the quality of the bulb.
Here are two methods for extending the life of your head and tail lights
OLD HEADLIGHT CAPSULES SHOULD BE REPLACED OR UPGRADED.
The headlight capsules or bulbs are made to last the longest. These are the components that do not burn out quickly. Rather, with time, they become worn out and lose their intensity. This is also why their dimming goes unnoticed for such a long time.
A automobile headlight typically lasts 500-1000 hours, depending on the type. So, if you’ve been driving for a while, especially at night, it’s a good idea to replace your headlights every now and then. You may get a 6- to 8-month window by simply replacing the bulb and save roughly $1000.
You can always choose to upgrade your headlights if you don’t like them. If your BMW has a halogen capsule, simply request a HID capsule, which will fit in the same housing. If your BMW has projector headlights, you may easily replace them with LED capsules.
If you like, you can choose from a variety of brighter variations or aftermarket goods. Remember to replace or update both of your headlights/taillights, not just one.
Please contact BMW of Grand Blanc if you require any other information.
REGULARLY CLEANING YOUR LENSES
When we talk about headlights, we always think of bulbs and lamps, but it’s your lenses that have the most impact. Your lenses’ responsibility is to make sure that your headlight is shining in the right direction and at the right strength.
There are numerous lenses in a headlight unit. The outer lens, which you can physically touch, is the first. These are the ones that protect your bulb from various weather conditions as well as all sorts of large and little objects. Then there are the converging and diverging lenses, which determine whether you have a low or high beam. Then there are lenses inside the bulb that either increase or shift the focus of the light.
All of these lenses must function properly at all times in order for a headlight to function properly. However, the outer lens is mostly responsible for a headlamp being damaged by it. Your outer lens begins to develop a cloudy appearance from the inside as time passes. This is caused by oxidation and has an impact on your beams and intensity. The simplest option is to keep it clean on a regular basis.
This will not only improve the appearance of your headlights and taillights, but it will also boost the overall brightness of your headlights.
Finally…
UPGRADING YOUR BMW HEADLIGHTS IS REQUIRED, BUT IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE EXPENSIVE.
You won’t have to spend $1000 on headlight modifications if you understand your lighting units and know what can and can’t be done. By conducting easy and regular maintenance you can keep your headlights bright and working for a long period.
Always check with our parts department before starting your projects, They may have specials going on and can also place orders for Genuine BMW parts.

Specialists at BMW of Grand Blanc understand how important it is for you to take good care of your vehicle. Whether it’s a little do-it-yourself or bringing your car in to see one of our mechanics. This week, we’d want to assist you in preparing yourself and your vehicle for the impending winter weather. What do you mean by that? We’re talking about the fluids that live inside your car, and we’re going to tell you what to do if you’re out of gas and need to fill up. And, as always, we’re reminding you what these fluids are supposed to do in case you forgot or need a reminder. So grab a pen and paper, sit back, and take notes on your vehicle’s fluids! When you’re done, we recommend that you plan a service appointment and take advantage of a servicing bonus. We look forward to seeing you soon at BMW of Grand Blanc.
Vehicle Fluids:
Windshield Washer Fluid
- Its function: Windshield wiper fluid is a fluid for automobiles that is used to clean the windshield with the windshield wiper while driving. Dust, debris, bugs, and, in the winter, ice and snow can all be removed with this method.
- Maintained: Washer fluid should be replaced at every service interval, whenever it runs out, or when the seasons change. Bug wash is a soapy solution that works wonders on bugs and debris on the windshield. If you used insect wash in your windshield washer reservoir during the summer, empty it before winter. In the winter, use windshield washer de-icer to keep your washer system from freezing up. When sprayed against the glass, it is also effective for cleaning ice and snow from the windshield.

Fluid for Power Steering
- What it does is this: The hydraulic fluid used in the steering system to form a hydraulic link between the steering wheel and the front wheels is known as power steering fluid. The amount of effort necessary to turn the wheels is reduced as a result. The steering system’s moving elements are also lubricated using power steering fluid.
- Where to look for it: The reservoir for your power steering fluid is located at the base of the windshield under the hood.
- What you should do is: Because power-steering fluid isn’t typically included among the components that should be replaced as part of routine maintenance, it’s up to the owner to do so on most vehicles. Some manufacturers, however, recommend having a mechanic flush the system on a regular basis.

Break Fluid
- What is Does is this: Brake fluid is a liquid chemical solution that is utilized in modern cars’ hydraulic braking systems. It’s made to transform the force of your foot on the brake pedal into pressure on your car’s brakes. It would take a lot more than your foot to stop your car if you didn’t have brake fluid!
- Where to look for it: The brake fluid reservoir is positioned on top of the master cylinder, which is normally found in one of the engine compartment’s back corners. The brake fluid level should be around the high marking on the reservoir, just like other car fluids.
- What you should do is: Brake fluid should be changed every 20,000 to 40,000 miles on average. Open your owner’s manual to learn when your brake fluid should be changed. If a brake warning icon appears on the dashboard, it’s possible that the braking fluid needs to be inspected. Another clue that your brake fluid needs to be checked is if your brake pedal reacts slowly.

Engine Oil
- What is does is this: The many moving elements of an engine are lubricated by motor oil, which helps to prevent damage and keeps your engine operating smoothly. By-products of combustion are gathered in your engine oil every time it operates.
- Where to look for it: The oil level dipstick has been replaced in newer BMW models by a sensor in the oil pan. If the oil level inside the oil pan falls below the safe level, the sensor should alert you. The engineers who designed the engines compute this quantity.
- What you should do is: If your automobile indicates that your oil needs to be changed, please contact us to set up an appointment. However, if you prefer a hands-on approach to automobile ownership, we recommend reading your owner’s manual to learn how to change the oil and which oils are recommended. Visit our parts department for all of your BMW requirements.

Coolant
- What is does is this: In the summer, the coolant absorbs the heat from the engine and prevents the engine water from boiling. It also prevents metal parts from rusting and rubber or plastic parts from corroding. In the winter, coolant/antifreeze lowers the freezing point and avoids freeze-up, which can cause an engine block to crack. Anticorrosion chemicals in the coolant prevent scale and lime buildup in the radiator and heater core, which is critical for keeping your passengers warm.
- Where to look for it: The coolant cap is located near the radiator in a reservoir; please reference your owner’s manual before performing any work on your vehicle. If you’re unsure, please contact us and we’ll be happy to answer any questions you have or provide service for your vehicle.
- What you should do: If your coolant level is low and you need help topping it off or having a coolant flush done, we can help. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require any BMW servicing.
On the East Coast, particularly in Michigan, winter may be difficult. In the winter, your BMW can have more battery problems than in the summer. The battery may entirely die in some situations, leaving you with no choice except to go for a jump start. It’s inconvenient, but it occurs, and rather than hoping for the best, it’s better to understand why your BMW battery dies more easily in the cold, and what you can do about it, if anything.

Winter on the East Coast, particularly in Grand Blanc, Michigan, may be challenging. In the winter, your BMW may have more battery problems than in the summer. In certain situations, the battery may entirely die, leaving you with no choice but to go for a jump start. It’s inconvenient, but it occurs. Rather than hoping for the best, it’s better to understand why your BMW battery dies more easily in the cold and what, if anything, you can do about it.
In the Wintertime, BMW Batteries
The battery in your BMW spends the entire year battling the elements. Extreme heat or cold inside the car, particularly in the battery, accelerates the rate of discharge that occurs at high temperatures. Because of the twin threat of scorching summers and cold winters in Michigan, your BMW’s battery has to work considerably harder than usual.
Defending your BMW’s Battery from the Elements
Summer heat causes the water in the electrolyte to evaporate, increasing sulfation. As the season progresses, fall and winter arrive, making your vehicle’s job even more difficult. Extreme lows inside the battery slow chemical reactions, reducing the battery’s ability to operate at full power and potential by the time winter arrives.

Can my BMW battery be killed by the cold?
Most batteries have a lifespan of 4 to 8 years. A battery can fail completely in four years if it is exposed to a particularly terrible year of extreme low and high temperatures that push both seasons to their limits. While cold deteriorates the whole life expectancy of your battery, BMWs are built with high-quality parts, so while this is a rare occurrence for this type of vehicle, cold does deteriorate the total life expectancy of your battery.

How Can I Keep My BMW Warm in the Winter?
The simplest way to ensure that you are keeping track of your BMW’s battery is to have it examined first to determine its present condition. There’s no way of knowing what your battery has been through in terms of science while it confronts the elements in Michigan. Owners who want their batteries to last and thrive no matter what the weather is outside should take their BMW to The BMW Service Center in Grand Blanc. To ensure a stress-free winter, the specialists at BMW Service Center of Grand Blanc help you evaluate your battery’s status, give it a charge, and determine if it’s time to replace it.
